Lomar adds a further six container ships and two product tankers to fleet
Lomar has further added to its fleet with the purchase of six container ships and two product tankers. The new acquisitions follow the announcement of the purchase of additional Panamax container ships by Lomar at the end of October this year. The new acquisitions are part of Lomar’s continuous process of fleet renewal and coincide with the strategic sale of four offshore vessels this month.
The London-based shipping company has acquired and taken delivery of Rio Eider, a 2,500 TEU container ship, German-built in 2005 and now renamed Antwerp Trader. Lomar has also taken delivery of the 2,500 TEU German-built 2002 container ship, RR America, acquired from Rimorchiatori Riuniti. The ship has been renamed Milan Trader.
Also acquired are two more German-built boxships: Conti Ariadne, a 2007-built 2,100 TEU vessel which has been delivered and renamed Georgia Trader, and the Rio Adour, a 2,500 TEU ship built in 2006 to be delivered in early December and renamed Virginia Trader.
Finally, the company has taken delivery of a pair of 2009 Korean-built 2,700 TEU container vessels, NYK Rosa and NYK Veronica now renamed Seoul Trader and Busan Trader respectively. These vessels join the 1996 Japanese-built Osaka Trader, a 1,600 TEU ship which was acquired over the summer by Lomar.
The product tankers added to the Lomar fleet are a pair of 2003 Korean-built 37,000 DWT vessels, Ocean Spirit which was delivered on 4 December and Ocean Force which is scheduled for delivery in mid-December.
The company confirmed that it had increased its product tanker and container fleets, adding that it believes in the underlying strength of the boxship sector which is why this class of vessel is so well represented in Lomar’s extensive newbuildings programme.
