Libra Group to open Washington, D.C. office
Former advisor to White House Chief of Staff to manage international business group’s policy and government affairs portfolio from new Washington, D.C. office
Libra Group, the privately owned diversified business group with 30 subsidiaries across five continents, has announced a new corporate office in Washington, DC and appointed Maurice M. Owens, former advisor to White House Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough, to manage the group’s policy and government affairs portfolio from the new location.
The Libra Group has principal operations in shipping, aviation, real estate, hospitality and energy as well as a range of diversified investments and has significant commercial interests globally. Washington DC is an important centre of public policy and Mr. Owens will lead Libra’s efforts there.
As Special Assistant to the White House Chief of Staff, Maurice Owens served as the primary liaison between the office of Chief of Staff and Capitol Hill. He was also involved with a number of special projects such as the Affordable Care Act Outreach, Immigration Reform Outreach and “My Brother’s Keeper” – President Obama’s initiative which seeks to help young men of colour throughout the USA reach their full potential.
Following a career in the US Air Force as an information and communications technology specialist, Maurice Owens joined the White House Communications Agency in 2007 where he operated and maintained a $45 million secure communications network integrating US agencies and allied nations. He joined the Chief of Staff’s office in 2012.
