Libra Group Appoints John Negroponte as Senior Advisor to Libra Board of Directors
Former US Deputy Secretary of State and first ever Director of National Intelligence becomes special advisor to Libra board, bringing nearly 50 years’ experience in foreign services, national government and commerce to Libra’s global operations.
In July 2009 Hon. John Negroponte, formerly US Deputy Secretary of State, Director of National Intelligence and Ambassador to the United Nations was appointed as Senior Advisor to the Libra Board of Directors.
John Negroponte, the son of a Greek shipping entrepreneur, is a US diplomat who has held some of the highest offices of state including Deputy Secretary of State, Director of National Intelligence and Ambassador to the United Nations.
His Foreign Service career included appointments as Ambassador in Honduras, Mexico, and the Philippines. In 1997 he joined McGraw-Hill, the media, education and business services group before being recalled to public service following the events of September 2001, first as US Ambassador to the United Nations and then as Ambassador to Iraq.
As the first ever Director of National Intelligence he presided over far-reaching reforms in the US intelligence services. In January 2007 John returned to the State Department as Deputy Secretary of State.
His honours include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Affairs Councils of America and the George F. Kennan Award for Distinguished Public Service from the National Committee on American Foreign Policy.
