Astraia Residence – A new and exclusive addition to the Aria collection on Crete
Aria Hotels has added a further property to its portfolio on the island of Crete, in the southern Aegean, with the Astraia Residence, a private two-storey house in the heart of the old town of Chania. Renovated to the highest standards and available for exclusive use, Astraia Residence can accommodate up to six people. Modern comforts and facilities in this classic holiday property are complemented by contemporary interior design.
Featuring two bedrooms, a spacious living room, fully-equipped open-plan kitchen, two bathrooms with shower and a rooftop terrace, the residence is ideal for couples, as well as small groups of friends or families. Astraia Residence is located on the site of the former Venetian monastery of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, built by Marussa Mengano in 1615 for the Dominican nuns based in Chania. Within easy walking distance of the numerous attractions and sites of the town, the residence also affords splendid views of the old port and harbour area.
Despite heavy bombing during World War II, Chania’s Old Town is considered one of the most beautiful urban areas on Crete, especially its ancient harbour. Surrounded by the ruins of the old Venetian city wall, Chania has been of strategic and historic importance to the island and Aegean Sea down the centuries. It is widely regarded as Crete’s most picturesque city.
Chania has preserved much of its original colour palette and historical character, and is also considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. The Venetian, Turkish and modern Mediterranean influences all combine to create a unique retreat for relaxing or experiencing the rich local culture including a variety of archaeological sites, temples, and numerous options for sampling the local wine and cuisine.
