Libra Group participates in White House call-to-action over global refugee crisis

Libra Group has today announced its participation as a partner in the White House call-to-action for private sector engagement on the global refugee crisis. There are more than 65 million displaced people in the world today, the highest number on record since the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) began collecting statistics. More than 21 million of these people have crossed international borders in search of safety and are registered as refugees.

Refugees are a valuable untapped resource and, if given the opportunity, can thrive and contribute wherever they reside. A crisis of this scale, however, requires more than government action. For this reason, Libra Group is proud to join President Obama and other private sector organizations in marshalling a blend of expertise, resources and entrepreneurial spirit to help refugees regain control over their lives and integrate into their new communities. Libra Group Chairman and CEO, George Logothetis today joined other private sector leaders in support of the initiative at a roundtable event chaired by United States Secretary for Commerce, Penny Pritzker and attended by President Barack Obama at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

As an international business, Libra has a track record in working across diverse cultures, nationalities and settings. With a strong ethos of engaging with the local communities wherever it operates, Libra equally believes in making a difference and being a force for good. Founded by a family with Greek origins, the group has also been very active in helping Greece to overcome the extent of its economic crisis and hardship in recent years. Libra’s stated commitments to assist the global refugee crisis include:

• Computer, language, therapy and security support for displaced persons in transit or at risk
• Educational bursaries, scholarships and internship opportunities throughout Libra’s network of schools and colleges and across the 30 Libra global subsidiaries
• Partnership and ongoing funding commitments to international humanitarian aid organizations and charities with a specific focus on children, young families and migrants
• Facilitate and engage dialogue at the highest levels to promote the cause of refugees throughout the world, ensuring their plight is on world leader agendas with safety, education and employability as key intervention
